An added bonus …the stainless steel handle remains cool to the touch so that flipping the pan halfway through is a cinch. The interior surface is nonstick, so the waffles should release from the pan without a problem. The waffles should take about 2 to 3 minutes per side, depending on your stove. Flip the pan over halfway through cooking. Fill one pan just until the batter is level, then attach the other preheated pan by the handy hinge. Lightly brush the surface with a small amount of melted butter or neutral oil and preheat both pans on the stove. It cooks four fluffy waffle sticks with an evenly crisp finish right on your stovetop …gas, electric, even ceramic cooktop. It consists of two pans that form a mold when hinged together. The waffle stick pan is made by Nordic Ware and is crafted of durable cast aluminum. It’s time to talk about actually creating these handy little sticks that the little ones go crazy over. ![]() And, yes, they both work very well when making waffles! The two I’ve used are Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free Pancake Mix and King Arthur Flour Gluten-Free Pancake Mix. Also, there are gluten-free mixes out there that are very good and work well with this method of making the waffles on the stovetop. If you plan to make these for a loved one who is gluten intolerant, switch out the regular flour with a gluten-free version. This is a recipe that I’ve used over the years to make my waffle sticks with great success. Including this step adds a lightness to the texture of the finished dish. The eggs are separated so that the whites can be beaten into frothy wisps. My two-year-old grandson, Dylan, likes to call them “mom-mom sticks.” My older almost-fifteen-year-old grandson, Ryan, actually prefers french toast …although I haven’t checked with him on this lately. In my family, they’re referred to as “our favorite” by my granddaughters, nine-year-old Sophia & five-year-old Ava. In most circles, these guys are known simply as waffle sticks. Take them to the next level …top them off with a sprinkling of powdered sugar and serve them with a selection of fresh fruit and some sweetened ricotta cheese for a yummy start to your morning.
