In both cases above, the lifetime licenses for most apps you buy are somewhat similar to a subscription to use for a few years (You can do the math which option is cheaper, 99$ for some lifetime apps that you might only use for 3 years or setapps) For most apps, you are not using the app forever, but a few years instead (There are only a handful of apps that can be used, as well as being alive for "life-long", some apps could just die or not loved/used by you in a few years) The developer might require you o pay again for updates. Well, if you think the other way, even though you buy the life-time license, you do not own the apps for life but were instead, 'licensed' to use for life. the iOS counterparts are also included into setapp.
